Permission to Escape

I’m sure all of you experience those moments where you’re a little down, or maybe you’re frustrated and upset with how things are going. People always want to jump in and say, ‘Hey, don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world.’ And while it’s true that things aren’t always as bad as we think, sometimes they just feel heavy. They feel disturbing.

My dad used to say that some people walk around like they’re carrying the entire weight of the whole world on their shoulders. You know exactly who I’m talking about—they’re angry, they’re upset, and they’re so busy holding everything up that they forget just to be here. They forget about gratitude, and they forget to be mindful of what they actually have, right here, right now.

To be totally honest, I’m to blame for that, too. I worry. I worry a lot. And that’s where I lose my way. I forget about Carpe Diem—the choice to live right here and right now. And to me, that choice is about being generous. Not just with money or time, but being generous with yourself. It’s about giving yourself permission to drop that weight for at least an hour.

The truth is, the world is going to keep spinning whether you worry about it or not. So, why not give yourself this moment? I give myself that permission every time I sit here to share music with you. I give myself permission to escape, to listen, and to be mindful of everyone out there listening with me.

So, for the next couple of hours, I am giving you permission to let the world stay outside your door. Let it go. Be generous with your heart and be mindful of the sound. We have an incredible lineup—old classics, new stuff, and world music at its best.
