Aging, Questions & Music
Aging, Questions & Music
Well, I have a confession to make. The years that led to my 70th birthdays were pretty difficult and as closer I get to that golden age of 70, I had a lot more anxiety. Magically once I hit that age of 70, the anxiety kind of like disappeared and I had some kind of a revelation. And I realized that growing older doesn’t reduce my value. It actually reveals it. And in fact, it is not the end of my story. It’s the beginning. It’s that wonderful moment where I quietly start asking myself what truly, truly deserve my time now. Now I struggle with the fact that I should have really asked myself that question perhaps 10 years ago. But, nevertheless, I’m asking it now. I’m also asking other questions for myself, a question like, “How do I measure success now that I am after 70?” Is it by how much? Is it by how healthy I am or is it in how many moments of peace, quiet, and lack of stress do I have?
I’m also realizing that friendships with other male friend or even women is one of the most valuable thing that I may want to have. And I’m asking myself the question, “Why don’t I have more friends?” I mean, I do have friends that I can call and say, “Hey, guess what?” and tell them some about something nice about good things that happened. But, how many friends do I have that I can call and vent and just say that I need help, which is very difficult for me to ask?
I’m also realizing that I need a lot more peace in my life and peace truly begins when the moment that I stop needing everyone to understand my life choices. This life belonged to me. And I realize that peace, peace of mind that is, is part of health that become, I guess, my greatest wealth. Every walk, every healthy meal, every good night sleep, every rest I take, and every quiet moment without stress is an investment in the years I still have ahead of me.
People sometimes ask me, “How do you monetize your radio program? What do you do? Do you have sponsors? Do you sell ads on your website?” And I turn around and I says, “No, that’s not what the website and the radio program meant to be.” For me, whenever the journey of life got overwhelming and the noise around me become too loud, I turn to a journey of discovering new music because that’s where I found true solitude and solace. And I truly feel blessed that I do have an outlet that can provide that solitude even if it’s just for a short while once a week. Music calmed me. It relaxes me. And sitting here, broadcasting live, connecting with my listeners, and sharing music that I love make these 2 hours of on Wednesday night wonderful, beautiful, joyful 2 hours. And whenever thing else changes, music stays with me forever.
So tonight, let’s put some music on. Let’s escape the noise and take a journey from East to West. I got a spectacular lineup of new music, old music, and many of your favorite. Stay with me for the next couple of hours.
